The rise of medical interest in CBD flower continues to increase even though only one drug has been approved by FDA. Epidiolex is produced using the CBD strain called Charlotte’s Web for seizures of a particularly resistant strain. But the interest continues because the benefits people are realizing are significant with nearly no side effects.

It is generally called alternative medicine and the medical professionals are usually not receptive to these natural compounds. However, the difference with CBD is that the benefits are significant and consistent with a high majority of users. The rise of medical interest in CBD flower involves the fact that it is all natural so has little possibility of having any type of negative outcomes.

A clinical trial for CBD to reduce opioid cravings were started after observing successful behaviors in other than human trials. Dr. Yasmin Hurd at Mount Sinai sponsored research into measuring CBD's efficacy to inhibit cravings for heroin-dependent individuals. The study administered CBD four times to patients that have abstained heroin use for at least 6 days prior to the first session, in one of two dosages, either 400 or 800 mg.

The rise of medical interest in CBD flower has led to them reporting a reduction of cravings but because it is a medical clinical trial that needs years to be convinced of real benefits, they concluded that a larger sample size was needed to form more definitive conclusions. But they did conclude that there were no serious adverse effects.

The Rise of Medical Interest in CBD Flower -- Cognitive Dysfunction in Schizophrenia

CBD was examined as a potential treatment for cognitive dysfunction in schizophrenic patients in one single clinical study. It was completed by Dr. Mohini Ranganathan from Yale University in 2013 as a 6-week, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel group. The fixed-dose of oral CBD at 600 mg/day was given to 36 stable antipsychotic-treated patients but patients diagnosed with chronic schizophrenia.

The clinical trial documented a significant decrease in the total score of the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale suggesting a decrease in overall symptoms without time dependency. There were no serious adverse side effects observed except some sedative relaxation.
